The extensive twelve-acre grounds included an orchard, paddock and an incredible stone Victorian mansion. In 1980, the estate was converted to a series of units, which retained the beautiful stonework and detailed design features of the historic building.
While the two units carried the same history, their likeness stopped there. The clients’ briefs were completely different – and thus, so was our approach to each renovation.
Unit 9
This unit was home to a retiree, who was looking to improve the space for greater comfort and accessibility. The existing spiral staircase was replaced by a wide, straight staircase design which opened up access to a mezzanine.
A new kitchen was installed with carefully selected fixtures and flourishes, paying homage to the Victorian aesthetic without compromise to contemporary comforts. Electrical wiring was updated throughout the home, including the installation of a pair of chandeliers.
Stone bench tops and shaker-style cabinetry complemented the existing timber flooring, which was sanded and restored back to life.
An existing marble fireplace was repaired and installed in the heart of the living area. During bathroom renovations, we discovered more of the original sandstone, a feature which was then used to line the room’s storage cupboard.
This home renovation was featured in Domain.

Unit 6
Works included the demolition of the existing kitchen and installation of state-of-the-art fixtures, including a ducted rangehood and integrated fridge which blended into the surroundings. The kitchen featured an elegant pattern of royal blue cabinetry and brushed gold hardware.
Revisions to the plumbing allowed us to maximise the existing space. The hot water system was moved from below the kitchen sink to the linen cupboard-turned-laundry, which freed up space in the bathroom. The bathroom was, in turn, upgraded to include a double shower, double vanity and generous bathtub. The bathroom interior was an eclectic mix of subway tile adorned walls against areas of brick and original sandstone
