Given that the family had to move out during construction, it was imperative that our program ran seamlessly and without delays. Design and finish selections were made well in advance, with timelines clearly communicated throughout the process.
The original 2-bedroom and 1-bathroom home was essentially gutted back to bare timber. Areas of the roof were removed to make way for a second storey structure. A concrete slab allowed for an increase in the building’s footprint. Within the existing structure, selected walls were removed to create open spaces, and new partitions were added to create rooms. The redesign of the existing space allowed for a natural passage into the newly developed addition.
A render finish was added to the home’s exterior to allow a harmonious transition between the existing facade and new brickwork. The use of cladding upstairs added an elegant texture to the home’s façade. It also served to keep costs within the owners’ budget due to the reduced need for structural steel beams.
